We are always on the lookout for unexpected divergent cytoskeletal proteins. We leverage evolutionary analyses to identify gene family expansions and accelerated amino acid changes (positive selection) across phyla, and we then explore the functional consequences of this evolutionary adaptation at the level of proteins, cells, tissues, and whole organisms.
